Hey there, I’m Mike—and I make This Day in Observance, a daily podcast that shines a spotlight on the quirky, curious, and sometimes downright delightful things we celebrate each day.
“Each day spins a story, quiet or loud,
A toast to the odd, the quirky, the proud.
From socks to sandwiches, kindness to cats,
There’s a reason today tips its hat.
I’m Mike, your host, your curious guide,
Through calendars strange and joyfully wide.
So lend me your ears, just ten minutes or so—
Let’s find out what today wants you to know.”
You’ve probably heard it before: “Today is National ___ Day” or “It’s International ___ Day.”
Some sound legit. Others? Pretty far-fetched. I used to wonder: Where do these come from? Who started them—and why? What’s the story behind the celebration? Has it changed over time?
So I started digging. I found calendars packed with observances—some silly, some serious, and many with surprisingly rich backstories. That’s when I thought: Why not turn this into a podcast?
At first, I planned to feature one serious and one silly observance per episode. But as the show evolved, so did my approach. Now, I pick what sparks my curiosity—whether it’s heartfelt, hilarious, or just plain odd.
I’ve made about 25 episodes so far, and I’m still finding my rhythm. I’m learning the ropes of audio production, experimenting with new tools, and soaking up every bit of feedback you send my way.
What I’ve discovered is this: I love researching these observances. But even more, I love telling their stories. Each episode runs about 10 minutes—short, snappy, and (hopefully) witty. Occasionally, I’ll drop a longer special episode when the topic calls for it.
Thanks so much for tuning in. I’d love to hear what you think—what you like, what you’d change, and which observances you want me to cover. Your feedback helps me grow the show, improve the sound, and keep things fresh.
So stick around, share your thoughts, and celebrate the strange and wonderful with me—one day at a time.
Thanks again for listening to This Day in Observance.
“This Day in Observance, that’s the show,
With facts and fun and a daily glow.
From heartfelt tales to holidays weird,
We celebrate all that’s loved and revered.
So drop me a line, send a request,
Tell me which day you love best.
I’ll keep it short, I’ll keep it bright,
Thanks for listening—have a curious night!“
